About Val
Val Goldfinch studied Graphic Design in the 1980s at Nene College, Northampton. She trained in traditional methods including hand lettering and painting and she loves to work with real brushes and paints.
Her flair for type and layout now finds its place in different ways, notably her successful jigsaw designs, which have been very popular. Her recognisable “Alphabet” layouts cover a variety of subjects, including architecture, people, vehicles, animals and nature in her detailed and intricate style. Val’s work has also been published on greetings cards, gift wrap, gift bags, wall art and homewares.
Inspiration comes from all around, she has been inspired by nature and wildlife, locally in Northamptonshire, where she lives, and by visits to North Wales and Yorkshire. Val is a keen photographer and takes lots of photos which she uses as reference for work in her home studio where she is supervised by her ginger cat, Buttons.
Working mainly in watercolours and gouache with added collage, Val is always keen to style different subjects and media.
